HELP!

I give up. My vacuum is killing me! It's a Hoover Turbo something or other 3100, which sounds great but it has most certainly seen better days. It barely sucks up anything - making me go over the same spot half a dozen times and then bring out the extensions which seem to work better but which are not intended for extended use. And it smells. We recently changed the filter in a last ditch effort to give it some new legs but it really should be put to rest. How long should they last? It's been nearly 4 years for this sucker and at this point all it is actually accomplishing is making me feel more inadequate as a housewife.
Anyway, my point in complaining to you is not only to keep me from kicking it and hurting my toe, but to ask if anyone has a good recommendation for a vacuum that I won't regret buying. Any suggestions?? Of course, on the other hand, if I had a good one, I wouldn't have my current (lame) excuse for not vacuuming in the first place ...

Vacuums should last much longer than 4 years! Are you sure that it is not clogged inside? Good luck!

we have one of those mini vacuums since we have a mini apartment....see the logic? well, it manages to suck fuzz out of our rug and then spit it out throughout the rest of the apartment. so, making it dirtier than it was prior to cleaning...and the hose randomly drops little pieces of gravel and sand from when it snowed. I guess I don't have any recommendations, except don't buy little baby vacuums......they are awful.

and I saw that elena said she found your blog through mine, and I found it through rachel. I'm always so out of the loop of what's going on...I didn't know you were having a 2nd baby until after you had it...yeah, that bad...it will be fun to stay caught up!

We went through this just a few months ago. See this post on my blog:

I wound up getting a Eureka The Boss at Bed Bath and Beyond with my 20% of coupon.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Dyson is the way to go! And now they have the one with the ball which lets you get in hard to reach places........I bet you have some of those. I say take your IRS stimulus check and help the economy by buying a Dyson. They should really pay me for my advertising.

ok.. i'm kinda with the Dyson as well. Emile tried to be tricky and bought a refurbished one to keep the price down, but if I did it again, I would just bite it and get the full meal deal.
Vacuums really do make me pull my hair out too!!! You know... "a Common Thread" services vacuums, and they have done a GREAT job for us in the past. That might be worth the savings.

I would definitely recommend the Kenmore Canister Vacuum which is on sale at Sears right now. The best part is the head unhooks so that you don't have to really fiddle with attachments (I don't really know how to better explain that - it is worth going to the store to look at it). Loved it!

I am browsing Blogs and found your plea for help. Recentally on a family blog we had this same delema and had a large weigh in about it. I am a big big fan of the Eureka The Boss. It rocks, it also got Good Housekeepings award for cleaning. My cousin ended up buying that vaccume from Wal Mart and loves it. I also think it is most used in our family, non believers are now believers. good luck.

Alisha I've got no hope for your vacuuming woes. Our first vacuum died out exactly one year after we bought it - of course past the warranty. And our second one is kind of on the fritz. You can't use the attachments or else it smells! NICE! Anyway, don't buy the $80 Bissell from Target or the $119 Eureka from Target. In fact, maybe just stay away from Target or Albuquerque where the dirt is just too hard on the vacuum. Loved the above blog with you and your girls all dressed up! Too cute!
